Courtice, Ontario - 1 December, 2005 -
What started out as a small project turned into a sit-down dinner for 165 people at the Williams Coffee Pub in Courtice. Originally the staff had considered adopting a family for the holiday season. But then they started to think bigger, eventually deciding to provide a feast for a much larger group. The staff of Kim, Michelle and Lee-Ann together with the support of owners, Sam and Gus Issa spearheaded this event to make it the success that it was. The restaurant was closed on Monday December the 16th between 2:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to allow for the meals to be served to people who might not otherwise get a holiday feast. The plan included bussing people in from a local outreach centre and treating them to a sit down dinner of turkey (16 turkeys were served in all), mashed potatoes, stuffing, soup, corn, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, gravy, pies and coffee. There was no shortage of food. Local businesses donated food, decorations, warm hats, mitts and scarves. The atmosphere was filled with caroling and their very own Santa Clause complete with elves from their own staff. This promises to be the first annual. This article has been read 1299 times .
