Snip-its, a national franchise organization of unique and creative hair care salons that cater specifically to children, today launched a 15-week campaign to raise hair and financial contributions for Locks of Love, a non-profit organization with a mission to provide hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 18 years and younger suffering from long-term medical hair loss. From June 13-September 24, Snip-its salons will be giving Locks of Love branded gifts (rubber bracelets in the summer; bookmarks for Back to School) to all boys and girls that get their hair cut at Snip-its to call attention to the need for hair and financial contributions to aid Locks of Love. Kids that get their hair cut at Snip-its during the fundraiser will place a lock of their cut hair in Snip-its trademark Magic Box in exchange for the Locks of Love gift. Snip-its patrons will also be asked to donate $1 for Locks of Love at the cash register; 100% of these proceeds will go directly to Locks of Love. Those wishing to donate hair (ponytails must be 10 inches or longer) will receive a complimentary haircut and hair donations will be sent directly to Locks of Love to create prosthesis hairpieces. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to participate in a national fundraising program to support Locks of Love," said Joanna Meiseles, President and Founder of Snip-its. "We believe this program will be exceptionally well received and hope many children and families can learn more about the important work Locks of Love does for kids suffering from medical hair loss ." Finally, on September 24, the culmination of the fundraiser, Snip-its salons across the country will host a one-day Snip-A-Thon to raise an even larger amount of hair donations for Locks of Love. During the Snip-A-Thon, Snip-its will provide free haircuts to both children and adults who donate 10" or more of their hair. Snip-its stylists will carefully package and send the precious locks of hair directly to Locks of Love. Those with hair that is less than 10" in length are also invited to donate, as Locks of Love sells shorter lengths to help offset the cost of hairpiece production. Also, at the Snip-A-Thon, Snip-its will announce the grand total amount of money raised nationally for Locks of Love during the 15-week fundraiser. About Locks of Love Locks of Love was founded in 1997 and has helped over 1,000 children. Their custom, vacuum-fitted hairpieces are made entirely from donated hair and do not require the use of tape or glue. Most recipients suffer from an autoimmune condition called alopecia areata, for which there is no known cause or cure. Others have suffered from severe burns, or endured radiation treatment to the brain stem, in addition to many other dermatological conditions that resulted in permanent hair loss.
