Bobby Brown, owner and operator of Rent-A-Wreck of Commerce, the convenient and cost-saving neighborhood car rental company, is celebrating his 5th year of success this month. Since joining the Rent-A-Wreck system, the Commerce fleet has grown to double its size to include a variety of vehicles. Located at 1490 South Broad street in Commerce, GA, Brown's Rent-A-Wreck is one of more than 350 franchise locations worldwide. Born and raised in Commerce, Bobby worked as a fireman for 7 years before him and Ruth, his wife of 37 years, decided to start an insurance agency. Together, they opened North Georgia Insurance Inc. in 1980. Recently Bobby decided that Rent-A-Wreck would complement their insurance business and help them serve their customers better. In 2001 Bobby reached his goal and opened the new business, plus a Pricele$$ location the same building as North Georgia Insurance Inc. "Our focus over the past five years has been to meet the used car rental and leasing needs of the community. We've made the Rent-A-Wreck name stand for quality and service," said Bobby. Running three businesses isn't easy. Bobby credits their success to Ruth, who helps out with accounting, and their son Justin, 27, who manages Rent-A-Wreck and Pricele$$. Justin recently followed in his father's footsteps and is on his way on becoming a fireman himself. In the future, the Browns hope to continue expanding and diversifying their fleet. Brown notes that great customer service is the key to staying successful in a rapidly growing community with plenty of competitors. "We are different not only because we rent inexpensive cars, but also because we try to be available to our customers around the clock," said Bobby, "If someone's car breaks down during the evening or a weekend, we will make every effort to get them back on the road as soon as possible," he continued, "That kind of service helps us develop unique relationships with our customers; we consider them as friends."
