Re/max Satellite Network Wins Best In Show

- 1 June, 2006 -

The documentary entitled "First Step Into Space: The Story of the Pre-Astronauts," produced by RE/MAX Satellite Network (RSN), has received the Platinum "Best in Show" award from the Aurora Film and Video organization. It is the story of aviation legend Colonel Joe Kittinger's historic 1960 flight to the outer reaches of earth's atmosphere. The flight, which was a precursor to NASA's space exploration, carried Colonel Kittinger to a world record altitude of 102,800 feet at which point he jumped from his specially designed balloon. In addition to setting several world records that still stand to this day, Kittinger is a member of National Aviation Hall of Fame and the International Space Hall of Fame. He was also named one of the 100 most significant aviators in history. Kittinger's relationship with RE/MAX International started in 1998 as a consultant on RE/MAX cofounder and chairman of the board Dave Liniger's "Around The World" balloon mission. Kittinger also served with Liniger as co-chairman of the "RE/MAX Balloon Celebration" marking the 100th anniversary of powered flight. "The First Step Into Space" received the Gold Award from the Aurora competition committee in addition to its "Best in Show" recognition, and is carried on the iNHD network. It also includes appearances by John Glenn and Neil Armstrong. "To have the opportunity to re-tell this incredible story with a living legend was an amazing experience for everyone at RSN," according to RSN senior vice president Mike Ryan. A second RSN production, "Supercharge Your Career 2006 Fire & Ice" also captured an Aurora Gold Award in the motivational category. The Aurora Award program is an international competition designed to recognize excellence in the film and video industries. Entries come from across the United States and abroad. Other notable organizations receiving awards in 2005 include The History Channel, Country Music Television, Court TV, Lockheed Martin, Warner Brothers Disney, and National Geographic TV. RE/MAX Satellite Network has garnered 60 film and video awards since its inception in 1994 as the first and still the only proprietary real estate television network. Programs are broadcast over the DISH Network, reaching more than 82,000 RE/MAX associates through 7,800 home and commercial office downlinks throughout North America. Video streaming programs are also available to more than 119,000 members worldwide on the extranet site, RE/MAX Mainstreet.
