Mr. Gatti's Pizza Inc. hired Michael Mrlik as president and CEO, the company said Thursday. Mrlik was chief operating officer at New World Restaurant Group Inc. (Pink Sheets: NWRG) in Golden, Colo., whose brands are Einstein Bros Bagels, Noah's Bagels, Manhattan Bagel, Chesapeake Bagel Bakery and New World Coffee. He also led operations for R&A Restaurants' Boston Market franchise. Mrlik will begin his new job by mid-May. Mrlik will work closely with Mr. Gatti's Chairman Jim McBride, a partner at Austin investment firm Blue Sage Capital LP. Blue Sage owns the Mr. Gatti's pizza chain, which operates about 150 stores in nine states, including 28 company stores and 122 franchises. Blue Sage Capital bought the company in December.
