Cincinnati, Oh - 15 April, 2004 -
The nation's leading provider of home improvement and remodeling services is now open for business in Minneapolis. With more than 80 franchises throughout North America, Handyman Connection's arrival in Hennepin County represents the fulfillment of a personal goal ten years in the making for the company's founder. "I grew up in Minneapolis and started my career there," says Handyman Connection founder and president Marvin Belkin. "When we sold the first franchise in Cincinnati in 1993, I knew then that I eventually wanted to bring the concept back to my hometown." While Handyman Connection does business throughout the United States and Canada, the company maintains a personalized, hometown approach to service by selling franchises in each market it serves. Local entrepreneur Ryan Goetz bought the Minneapolis franchise earlier this year. Since then, he has worked to assemble the local network of home improvement contractors who will perform work under the Handyman Connection name. When Goetz' franchise opened on April 1, a broad-based trade craftsman network was in place and ready to begin serving residents in Hennepin County. The network includes finish carpenters, remodelers, tile workers, drywall contractors, plumbers and many others, enabling homeowners to access any number of home improvement services with a single call to Handyman Connection. "It's a proven model that has flourished in communities across the nation - we find the contractor for you, we get you an estimate in only a day or two, we start the work fast and we guarantee the work," says Goetz. "Homeowners in this area will quickly see how easy it is to work with Handyman Connection." The opening of the Handyman Connection's Minneapolis franchise represents a dream come true for Goetz, as well. An enterprising spirit, Goetz started his first business, a home repair firm, while still working on his MBA in Venture Management at the University of St. Thomas. "I've dreamed of owning my own business since I was very young," Goetz says. "And I've always had a talent for home improvement work, so owning and managing a Handyman Connection franchise was a natural next step for me." Handyman Connection's franchise in Minneapolis will initially serve a territory encompassing approximately 241,000 homes in Hennepin County. Eventually, both Goetz and Belkin envision the franchise growing to serve the entire Twin Cities metropolitan area. "This is a fast-growth market with a need for high-quality, reliable home improvement and remodeling services," says Belkin. "Handyman Connection is the first national home repair company to open for business in Minneapolis, and we're confident that customers are going to like what they see."
