What’s red and green and yellow all over? It’s Golden Krust’s newest sensation but it’s not for sale in stores. “Mister Krust” is the Caribbean food franchisor’s new mascot, a culinary ambassador who will promote the company at grand openings and other special events. The mascot will also carry out surprise visits at various locations in the system, so customers should be prepared for the unexpected, says Pauline Bennett-O’Leary, public relations and marketing manager for the 73-unit chain. “Mister Krust is the personification of our company spirit,” Bennett-O’Leary said. “He is a blend of charm with a drop of whimsy and a extra helping of fun, and will bring his own unique brand of enthusiasm to any company event.” Mister Krust brought a good vibe to the recent grand opening and customer appreciation day at Golden Krust’s first Yonkers store on New Main Street. The bright yellow mascot shaped like a patty, his dreadlocks covered in a red, green and gold tam danced, shook hands, posed for pictures with customers and served heighten awareness of Golden Krust’s presence in the area, said Lowell Hawthorne, president and CEO of the organization. In fact, one of the first promotional campaigns focusing on Mister Krust will be a re-naming contest. The general public will be invited to compete for a $250 cash prize and free lunch at one of our locations if they submit the name that people feel best describes the mascot. The five top entries will be displayed on Golden Krust’s Web site, and customers will be asked to vote for their choice. The selection that garners the most votes will win the naming contest.
