Atlanta - 19 June, 2001 -
Cinnabon(R), a subsidiary of AFC Enterprises, Inc., announced that it signed development agreements with two new franchise partners and extended agreements with current franchise partners that have committed to build 32 new Cinnabon bakeries. Top Bon, LLC signed an agreement to add seven bakeries to the Pittsburgh area. AAFES signed an agreement for five new bakeries on its military bases domestically and four international locations. Food Brand, LLC signed an agreement to build five bakeries in their Mills Malls locations throughout the U.S. Sugar & Cinnamon, JJ., LLC signed an agreement to build a new bakery in the Miami-Dade County market. Canamerica International Traders CIA Ltda. signed an agreement to build 10 bakeries in Cinnabon's first entry into Ecuador. Top Bon, LLC is owned by Richard Neumann who was Cinnabon's first franchise partner. Neumann owned the Philadelphia market franchise until 1995 when the company repurchased the bakeries and territory rights. "We're glad to have Richard back in the system and growing another market for us," said D'Wayne Tanner, vice president, new business development. "The previous owners of Cinnabon followed the philosophy of having a large number of company-owned bakeries. We've taken a different approach which allows us to grow the brand faster as a franchise company." Following that philosophy, Cinnabon has started to sell company-owned units in outlying markets. Since AFC Enterprises acquired the brand in October 1998, the company has converted 17 company-owned units to experienced franchise partners. Cinnabon is looking to convert more bakeries in markets, such as Boston, Kansas City, Central Florida, Alabama, Ohio, Indiana, Salt Lake City and Tennessee markets. The brand continues to expand internationally with a recent agreement to build 10 bakeries in Ecuador. "The reason we decided to go to Ecuador is that Cinnabon has proven to do quite well with Latin American consumers because they have an affinity for sweet-baked products and are favorably disposed to high quality U.S. brands," said Jerry Bell, international chief operating officer. "Also our partners, Canamerica, are proven QSR operators as demonstrated by their success in bringing other QSR's to Ecuador." Cinnabon opened 15 new bakeries domestically and 11 internationally for a total of 26 bakeries opening first quarter. The bakeries were in the following locations: Miami, FL Westmoreland, NY Windsor Locks, CT University of Virginia Hospital, VA Fort Jackson, SC Charlotte, NC Carswell Air Force Base, TX Kennebunk, ME (2) North Somerset, PA South Somerset, PA Lawn, PA John Wayne Airport, CA Ardsley, NY Indian Castle, NY Metro Toronto, Ontario, Canada (3) Ramstein Air Base, Germany Seoul, Korea Abu Halifa, Kuwait Tokyo, Japan (2) Nagoya, Japan Osaka, Japan Bangkok, Thailand Cinnabon is the world-wide leader in the QSR cinnamon roll bakery category.
